High tech can be anything that speaks for the person by pressing a button (which most apps on the iphone do now) or a blink of an eye from the patient or even a blow through a straw; We had to balance the need for students to fully communicate with what we felt staff could handle and support.

Low tech aac is a communication method that utilizes some materials, such as a paper and pen or alphabet board, but is not electronic. Low tech language boards provide a nice model for students who are learning to use more complex and higher tech aac systems.
